Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Rolls
A crispy, flaky snack filled with juicy seasoned beef and melted cheese.
Ingredients
- 500 g minced beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp ketchup or tomato paste
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 1–1½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten, for brushing
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds, optional
Method
- Cook the beef: Heat oil in a pan. Sauté onion for 2–3 minutes, then add garlic and minced beef. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink.
- Season: Add salt, pepper, paprika, chili flakes, and ketchup/tomato paste. Cook for another 2–3 minutes. Let the filling cool completely.
- Prepare pastry: Roll the puff pastry into a rectangle and cut it into 6–8 strips or rectangles.
- Fill: Place some beef filling and shredded cheese along each piece, leaving the edges clear.
- Roll: Fold or roll the pastry around the filling and seal the edge. Place seam-side down on a lined baking tray.
- Brush: Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds if desired.
- Bake: Bake at 200°C (400°F) for about 18–25 minutes, until deeply golden and puffed.
- Serve: Rest for 5 minutes before serving so the cheese isn’t molten-hot.
Tip: For extra cheesy rolls, mix mozzarella with a little cheddar. Make sure the beef filling is cool and fairly dry before filling the pastry—hot or watery filling can make the pastry soggy.
